Lynk is a startup which builds technology to connect blue collar workers in Kenya - from carpenters to cleaners - to jobs. Our suite of products seeks to satisfy a breadth of consumer needs, which provide multiple channels to increase incomes for workers in our system:

  • Lynk: A marketplace product enabling customers to request services or order ready-to-buy services in over 50 categories from cleaners, to masseuses, to plumbers, and tailors.

  • Lynk Projects: A turnkey construction firm, providing design and management services in fitout and construction projects, delivered by Pros on the Lynk platform

  • Lynk for Business: Maintenance, facilities management, and project management services for business clients delivered by Lynk Pros

A bit about the role:

The Projects Director is a senior leader responsible for operational strategy and day-to-day operations within the Project division at Lynk, business development for large projects and overseeing B2B customer-delivery. S/he works with teams to ensure that contracts are executed to spec and  to Lynk’s internal quality standards and that sales and growth targets are met. S/he will be responsible for organizing the design and build offering to a highly successful business unit that leaves our customers happy and satisfied.

A bit about you:

As the Project Director, you consider yourself an idea person but have deep experience and a strong understanding of how large projects work. You are meticulous about details and it drives you crazy when things don’t go as they ought to. You are a good communicator, enjoy thinking up beautiful designs and removing every last bit of friction from them. In order to do that you measure and analyze user interactions, deeply understand who our customers are and know what they need better than they do themselves.

Specific responsibilities:

Strategy and Product development

  • Work with the design team to develop compelling customer offers

  • Ensure that our processes are smooth, transparent and fully implemented

  • Ensure that pricing is competitive and sustainable

  • Work with the build-out team to ensure that projects are delivered on time and give super quality finishes every time

Team management & internal coordination

  • Provide overall guidance of the team of 10-15 people

  • Manage and cultivate internal teams to run specific projects

  • Set KPIs and targets for internal teams and individuals, and push for ongoing growth

  • Ensure that every staff (within the division) is delivering on KPIs and SOPs

  • Function as the escalation point as required

  • Collaborate with executive-level management in the development of performance goals and long-term operational plans

  • Lead recruitment for staff

  • Manage Operations budget planning and monitoring

  • Push teams to hit and exceed growth targets

  • Promote and support implementing innovative ideas to be further competitive and unique

Operations process development

  • Develop organizational processes, which are deployed within the division e.g project management tools to

  • Create and uphold organization policies and standards, ensuring legislative regulations are followed

  • Use data to identify and target areas in which a business can improve operational efficiency

  • Enforce onsite health and safety procedures

Relationship management

  • Identify and develop relationships with valuable partners and clients, including restaurant chains, real estate developers and facility management firms

  • Agree on operational modalities of partnerships

  • Negotiate and administer contracts, MOUs and SLAs

Successful candidates will have all or most of these qualifications:

  • Degree in construction management, design, architecture or a related discipline

  • 4+ Years in project management or related areas

  • A history of leading large multi-faceted construction or renovation projects

  • Experience managing a team of individuals to deliver high performance

  • Demonstrated capacity to drive sales through customer sourcing, pitching, and sales funnel management

  • Deep understanding of Kenya’s construction and renovation industry

  • A willingness to get your hands dirty, quite literally!
