Lynk is a startup which builds technology to connect blue collar workers in Kenya - from carpenters to cleaners - to jobs. Our suite of products seeks to satisfy a breadth of consumer needs, which provide multiple channels to increase incomes for workers in our system:

  • Lynk: A marketplace product enabling customers to request services or order ready-to-buy services in over 50 categories from cleaners, to masseuses, to plumbers, and tailors.

  • Lynk Projects: A turnkey construction firm, providing design and management services in fitout and construction projects, delivered by Pros on the Lynk platform

  • Lynk for Business: Maintenance, facilities management, and project management services for business clients delivered by Lynk Pros

A bit about the role:

The Operations Director is responsible for operational strategy and day-to-day operations at Lynk, overseeing B2C customer-delivery, and supply of Pros for all avenues of the business. S/he ensures that customer offerings are designed to satisfy the needs of service buyers, service providers, and internal teams, and are iterated on based on feedback from those stakeholders. S/he works with teams to ensure that services are delivered with quality and that sales and growth targets are met. S/he collaborates with other Lynk teams including tech and marketing, to ensure that Lynk offers a fantastic customer- and Pro-experience, and develops new partnerships to improve the overall experience further.

A bit about you:

You are an operational wizard, with excellence in managing and motivating teams. You love not just setting up processes, but managing their day-to-day implementation. You are a genius in understanding how to design and deliver products which satisfy customers, and in empowering mixed-capacity teams to realise those visions.

You’ll be responsible for:

Strategy and Product development

  • Work with segment teams to develop compelling customer offers

  • Ensure that product structures maximise for operational efficiencies

  • Ensure that products satisfy B2C, B2B and internal clients adequately

Team management & internal coordination

  • Provide overall guidance of team of 10-20 people

  • Manage and cultivate mid-management Segment Leads

  • Set KPIs and targets for segment teams, and push for ongoing growth

  • Ensure that Segment Leads are delivering on KPIs and SOPs

  • Function as the escalation point as required

  • Function as focal point for coordination between Segment Teams, B2B and Projects teams, marketing and tech

  • Collaborate with executive-level management in the development of performance goals and long-term operational plans

  • Lead recruitment for staff in Segment Teams

  • Manage Operations budget planning and monitoring

Segment Growth

  • Push business unit teams to hit and exceed growth targets

  • Promote and support implementing innovative ideas from teams to grow business units

  • Collaborate with B2B, Projects and Marketing teams to ensure that the quantity of delivery can grow

Operations process development

  • Develop organizational processes, which are deployed across Segments, from management tools to call center technologies

  • Identify opportunities for automation, and collaborate with Product Manager and tech teams to ensure that tech is built around them

  • Support Segment Leads in the development of operational processes

  • Create and uphold organization policies and standards, ensuring legislative regulations are followed

  • Use data to identify and target areas in which a business can improve operational efficiency

Relationship management

  • Identify and develop relationships with valuable partners, including TVETs and supply chain partners

  • Agree on operational modalities of partnerships

  • Negotiate and administer contracts, MOUs and SLAs

Successful candidates will have all or most of these qualifications:

  • MBA or degree in related field

  • 5 years experience in managing business units and people

  • Demonstrated track record in scaling initiatives or business units

  • Proven record of developing effective partnerships

  • Experience with vocational training, upskilling, and/or work with informal workers a plus

  • Experience in the Kenyan Market strongly preferred
